by Geoff Williams for AOL Small Business

The job market may reek, and personal bankruptcies have been climbing, but most economists feel that the recession is over in the technical sense, and that we're starting a slow climb outward and upward. So it feels like a good time to start looking at life after the Great Recession.

If you're wondering which businesses are going to fare well in the recovery period and whether you should r... more >>

Third quarter net revenue increased by 17% compared with the previous quarter, a rise of 22% from the same nine month period in 2008. Transfer Pricing: A World of Pain
China, India, and other once tax-friendly domains look to squeeze U.S.-based multinationals on sales between subsidiaries.
by Alix Stuart, CFO Magazine

Yet another unwelcome side effect of the global recession: hungrier international tax authorities. Experts say that officials in previously tax-friendly countries, including China and India, are looking to fill their coffers by extracting more from U.S.-based multinationals. Among their favorite areas to probe: transfer pricing, or the pricing of sales between subsidiaries and subsequent allo... more >>

Tax Authorities Around the Globe Step Up Activity
by Anita Campbell

With the global economic recession, tax authorities everywhere are looking to increase the tax coffers. If you run a business with operations located in countries outside the U.S, be aware that your business may be put under the microscope.

In down economies when it’s not politically expedient to raise taxes, the tax authorities are instead stepping up enforcement, according to Larry Harding, CEO of High Street Partners, a firm which advises businesses on establishing operations in countries outside the United States and complying with local requirements. While a tax problem is not the worst problem... more >>

guest column by Larry Harding

The Obama administration has already done a lot to re-ignite small business growth, raising guarantees on SBA loans to 90 percent, eliminating costly fees for borrowers and lenders, and introducing a series of beneficial tax cuts and incentives. But when it comes to venture-backed small businesses, current policy once again falls short, and some proposed regulations may have damaging ramifications.

These regulations are well-intentioned, but some (purported to reduce risk or promote “fairness”) could easily ... more >>
